SUPERNATURAL SUNDAY

Please welcome Luxie Ryder into the moonlight. Love your name, Luxie. To learn more about Luxie join her at her website where you can learn more about Luxie and her books! Now, to the good stuff…

GRACEN: Do you have a movie that you must watch every Halloween? What's your favorite scary movie? Do you have a favorite scary character or character type?

LUXIE: ‘Halloween’ is always a favorite! Jamie Lee Curtis, the scream queen, can’t be beaten. The soundtrack, the atmosphere and that jerky, handheld camera draws me in every time and even though I know where the scares are; I still jump out of my skin!

My favorite scary characters are from the teen slasher movies I saw when I was younger. I remember seeing a Friday the 13th (part two) and A Nightmare on Elm Street double bill at the movies on time, and being absolutely terrified! Jason and Freddie haunted me for days afterwards. You never get over your first fright night!

GRACEN: Do you dress up for Halloween? If so, what will you be dressed up as this year? What was your all-time most favorite costume that you ever wore? Why?

LUXIE: I have dressed up for Halloween and I loved it! I had this fabulous vampy dress one year in black velvet with a jagged hem and a blood red collar. I won’t be dressing up this year (as far as I know – no invites have surfaced yet) but I would love to.

GRACEN: Oh, that sounds like an awesome costume! Are you superstitious? Do you find yourself knocking on wood or throwing salt over your shoulder? If not one of these two, what is your superstition?

LUXIE: I do knock on wood and throw salt over my shoulder. I love the folklore surrounding superstitions – such as the one where you have to smash your empty eggshells or else witches will go to sea in them and sink ships – but I don’t practice any except the ones I mentioned.

GRACEN: Interesting folklore about empty eggshells. Never heard of it before and now I'm wondering how many ships I'm responsible for sinking! ;-) Do you believe in ghosts? If so, have you ever had a ghostly encounter and tell us about it?

LUXIE: No, I don’t believe in ghosts but I DO believe in the power of the human mind and its ability to convince you that you are seeing something that isn’t there! In some ways, I find that a little more terrifying!

GRACEN: Tell us 3 funny or strange things that happened to you, or someone you know, on past Halloweens?

LUXIE: Well the first story comes from my teens and that Horror Double Bill a friend and I watched at the cinema. We were cowering in our seats, clutching on to each other…when someone slammed the exit door at the back of the room! I am not exaggerating when I say that the staff almost had to scrape me and Anna off the ceiling. We screamed SO loudly that everyone in the cinema was in hysterics.

Another scary movie moment (I’m such a sucker for them) was when hubby and I saw Final Destination. Again, the bit with Tara Reid and the Greyhound bus had me jumping out of my skin! That time, I lurched so far back in my seat, that I banged my head off the knee cap of the girl behind me! Painful and embarrassing.

My favorite Halloween ever was the year I went to see The Rocky Horror Picture Show live at my local theater. The girls and I all wore corsets and torn stockings and gothic make up to the show – as did everyone else, guys included. What a fun, funny night!

GRACEN: LOL Thanks for sharing these! If you could be any paranormal creature, what would it be and why?

LUXIE: I’d like to be a vampire, but only for a short time. I wouldn’t be able to kill anyone but I’d love to know what it felt like to be that sexy and powerful.

GRACEN: Swashbuckling pirates like Johnny Depp are sexy, but e-pirates are not. How do you handle e-pirates in your writing world? Do you have any advice or wish to share any experience with other writers? Anything you wish to say to e-pirates in general?

LUXIE: e-pirates are thieves. There is no other word for them. I almost feel that the term ‘pirates’ minimizes what they do, but I accept that it’s as good a word as any. New technology is developing all the time and, just as those who stole music suddenly found themselves with a multi-million dollar lawsuit on their hands, so will e-pirates one day.

GRACEN: That lawsuit can't come soon enough in my opinion! Now, let’s get to your writing, Luxie…Why the paranormal genre? What was the draw for you?

LUXIE: I love the paranormal genre for many reasons. I like that you can create new worlds, characters and circumstances and let your imagination take free reign. Paranormal romance, specifically, provides the opportunity to write some amazingly sexy scenes and situations.

GRACEN: If you could describe your paranormal writing with a word or phrase, what would it be? Please be creative and look beyond words like vampire, werewolf, etc., and delve into the core of your writing to tell us what word or phrase you want readers to take with them when they've finished reading your story.

LUXIE: I like to think I tell realistic tales of ordinary people who find themselves in extraordinary circumstances.

GRACEN: Do you prefer playing tricks on people or bestowing treats? Does that show through in your writing? If so, how?

LUXIE: What an interesting question! You’ve made me realize that I like terrorizing my characters! But there is always a treat at the end.

GRACEN: LOL I love dishing out terror on my characters too! *Mwhahahahah* Who decides what creatures you write about, you or your muse? What kind of influence do you have over your story, or is the muse always the one stirring the cauldron?

LUXIE: I decide and I keep my muse in check! My muse is a dark, naughty little madam and I often have to rein her in because I am not sure people want to read some of the stuff she comes up with!

GRACEN: What was the creature/paranormal character that you had the most fun creating and why? Who—to you—was the sexiest character you wrote and why?

LUXIE: Well of course, Ethan Butler is by far the sexiest character I have shared with the readers in one of my paranormal novels. When we meet him, he is already a huge, handsome hunk of a man and then he is turned into a vampire! Irresistible!

I had the most fun creating Mama Susu from my novel Mama’s Charm. She is a voodoo priestess from Haiti and nobody knows how old she is, save to say she is ancient. She is a little bit naughty and the locals are terrified of her but she has a soft spot for the heroine Martine. The old girl still has an eye for the fellas - as our rugged hero Wade finds out when he wakes up naked on her kitchen table. Great fun!

GRACEN: Ooo…Mama Susu sounds like a fun gal! If you had the opportunity to meet just one of your characters in real life, who would it be and why? Which of your characters would you never want to meet under any circumstance and why?

LUXIE: I’d love to meet Ethan from Sacrifice or Wade from Mama’s Charm. They are both inspired by men I go weak at the knees for in real life. They are tall, strong, ruggedly handsome (no pretty boys here please) who will do anything to save the woman they love.

The character/s I wouldn’t like to meet are Clairvius Douyon - the evil bokor from Mama’s Charm. He’s a nasty little man who isn’t as powerful as Mama Susu but still causes major problems for the hero and heroine – and Silas from my novel Sacrifice. He’s the head of a local nest of vampires that control New Orleans by catering to the peccadilloes of the city’s politicians.

GRACEN: Thanks so much for joining us in the moonlight, Luxie! All the best of success with your books!

Blurb:

All Hallie Matheson wants is someone to rent her apartment. What she gets is the handsome and wealthy, Ethan Butler. They hit it off instantly and Hallie thinks she has found a lifelong friend, until she tries to explore the sexual tension between them. Ethan rejects her and then avoids her for months, leaving Hallie confused and hurt.

Until one fateful night she finds Ethan collapsed and near death on her door-step.

Ethan has spent the last few years investigating vampires, until a sudden attack ends his mortal life. Now, he has even more reason to avoid Hallie, despite his desire to have her. Her continuous presence sparks a desperate hunger within him he can no longer control. No sooner has their affair begun when his worst fears are realized.

Desperate to do anything to keep her alive, Ethan vows to make the ultimate sacrifice.

Excerpt:

Hallie had wiped away her tears by the time he cracked open the door, but he could still see the tracks on her face and the redness around her pretty green eyes. She’d lost a few pounds in the last couple of weeks, evident from the way the sweat pants that used to hug her lovely curves now hung loosely from her hips. Another thing he felt responsible for.

“H…hi,” she said, her voice still husky from crying. “Can I come in?”

Ethan wanted to tell her to stay away, but as he struggled to find the right words without causing her more pain, his delay in answering clearly upset her. Her beautiful green eyes sparkled with unshed tears. It physically pained him knowing he was the cause of her sorrow.

He moved out of the doorway, gesturing for her to enter, and took a last deep breath of air before her scent and taste assaulted his senses.

“Thanks.” Hallie took a seat, perching on the edge of the very sofa where he’d almost ended her life. Ethan didn’t join her. Instead, he remained standing, watching her silently. The highly sensitive awareness coursing through his body warned him she was more than a little angry. She was livid.

“Now I can see you’re perfectly okay. Do you mind telling me why the hell you’ve been so mean to me? I took care of you, only to find you had disappeared in the middle of the night, and I haven’t laid eyes on you since.” She stood up abruptly and moved towards him, her finger jabbing at his face. “The least you could do is thank me for helping your sorry ass!”

Ethan took a step back, unsure if he could handle it should she touch him. “I sent you some flowers. Didn’t you get—”

“Yes, I got them.” She sighed and the anger drained from her face. “But that’s hardly the same as seeing with my own eyes that you were alive. Ethan, I truly thought you were dying.”

“I’m sorry, really I am. But as you can see, I’m fine.”

He moved a little closer to the door, his hand extended as if to grab the knob. Any hopes that she’d accept his flippant answer and leave him to his misery were dashed when she walked back to the sofa and sat down again.

“Are you going to tell me what happened?”

“Why?”

She smiled, but it didn’t reach her tired eyes. “Besides the fact you owe me an explanation, I’m a lone woman living in a house with a man I don’t really know as well as I thought I did. If you have drug or alcohol problems—”

Ethan swallowed his offense at her words. “I don’t drink, and as for drugs, do I look like an addict to you?”

Hallie shook her head, a shy smile lighting her features. “Not really. You do look well, though. Amazingly so, considering how bad you looked two weeks ago…” Her voice drifted off and she seemed to lose her train of thought as her gaze crawled over him slowly. Ethan tensed and turned away.

“So, what happened?” she asked, the weariness back in her tone.

“I don’t know the details.” That much wasn’t a lie at least. “I was researching a story at this club and the last thing I remember is a young Creole woman—”

Hallie cast her gaze downward. “Did you…you know…with her?”

“Have sex with her? No.”

The blush crawling over Hallie’s cheeks almost made him growl. He didn’t need to be reminded that her warm, sweet blood lay mere millimeters below the surface of her skin.

“So what did she do to you?”

He shrugged, feigning ignorance. “I can only guess what happened but it doesn’t matter now anyway. As you can see, there’s no lasting damage.” Hallie fell silent. If he was very lucky, she’d let it drop. But since when had he ever been lucky?

“I’m sorry Ethan, but that’s bullshit. You’re a reporter for God’s sake. Do you really expect me to believe you didn’t try to find out what she did to you?”

“Like I said, it doesn’t matter—”

“Like hell it doesn’t! All kinds of shady stuff goes down in New Orleans. How do you know she didn’t poison you? DocFletcher said—”

“Whatever he said was wrong.”

“So you do know what it is.” Hallie got to her feet and closed in on him, her voice a gentle plea. “Tell me.”

She reached out to grip his t-shirt but he stopped her, wrapping a hand around each of her wrists and held her away. Hallie gasped from the contact, obviously shocked at how cold he felt. For him, her skin almost burned his palms as her heat radiated through his flesh.

“Please, I need to know,” she whispered.

“It would only frighten you.”

Ethan dropped his gaze, unable to look into her eyes while they silently begged him to open up to her. Instead, he gazed at her trembling lips, groaning when the sight of them caused a hard jolt of desire to course through him. Ethan let go of her and tried to move away but he stopped, frozen with dread when her fingertips caressed his cheek.

Ethan felt her heart thud with frenzy and she sucked in shallow, rasping breaths. He stared at her face, then her sensuous lips slightly parted as she tilted her head back, telling him without words she wanted to be kissed. Ethan drank the sight of her in, promising himself this was all he would take…but then he caught another aroma…one he couldn’t resist.

Hallie’s arousal perfumed the air, assaulting his senses without warning. The tiny amount of restraint Ethan had left, snapped, replaced by the hungry entity within him. He couldn’t control himself any longer, not when the intoxicating woman tormented his basic desires. He reached out and cupped her jaw, lifting her chin as his mouth descended.

Hallie sank into him, moaning softly when his lips slid across hers. Her hands brushed his hair and she tugged, trying to pull him closer, her body pressed against his. Her warm, soft flesh burned into him, even through his t-shirt, and he craved more of her heat. Ethan wrapped his arms around her back and trapped her against his torso, thrusting his groin into hers in response to the way she writhed against his erection.

He only intended to give her a little of what she asked for while taking a taste for himself, but he was unprepared for the spike of lust spearing through him when her tongue slid boldly into his mouth. An image of her, naked and writhing beneath him, leapt into his mind and he knew he no longer had the strength to stop.

Hallie pulled away first, her breath ragged as she released a throaty, self conscious laugh…but when she looked up at him, a hair-raising scream tumbled from her lips, as she stared in horror at his mouth.

Ethan brought his hands to his lips, wiping them quickly to check for her blood. He wiped again and winced as something sharp pierced the back of his knuckles.

Fangs. He’d forgotten about the fangs.

Blurb:

Martine's tarot cards didn't warn of the handsome stranger about to walk into her life. Wade didn't want to fall for the sexy gypsy causing havoc in his. Neither knew of the magic that brought them together or the evil that threatens to tear them apart.

Mama Susu has watched over Martine for years and believes Wade can give her the love she craves. After using her powerful magic to bring them together, she prepares to do battle with Clairvius - the bokor obsessed with Martine and determined to end Wade's life.

Voodoo and betrayal in the heart of New Orleans. Can their love be saved by Mama's Charm?

Excerpt:

Did he know me? I squirmed a little under his intense scrutiny, sure he had never been a client. I wouldn’t have forgotten him—if only for his looks if not his strange mannerisms. Still, something lurked behind his gaze that unnerved me. If I didn’t know better, I would swear he didn’t like me much. I’d be happier when the session was over. Going through my usual routine, I gave my name.

He repeated it, making it sound dirty somehow. ‘Martine. Is that Creole?’

I nodded, uncomfortable with the slant he put on the words. Deciding to ignore it, I continued. ‘Usually, people tell me what they want to know, and we see where the cards take us, ok?’

He shuffled in his seat before fixing me with a look. Again, I knew he wouldn’t be entirely truthful, but it was his money, and if he wanted to waste it, it made no difference to me. ‘I think my wife is seeing someone.’ His voice had trailed off as he finished speaking, sounding rougher, tinged with something that sounded like sadness, but could have been anger.

I got up and lit some candles—a blue one for him, to bring peace and happiness and a black one for me, to absorb the negative energy I could feel coming from him. I wasn’t exactly nervous but couldn’t shake the edgy feeling I had about the guy.

Flicking a quick glance over my shoulder, I found his eyes on my ass. Turning back to him as I cleared my throat, his perusal continued, inching slowly up my body, finally reaching my face. Any hope I had of seeing contrition or embarrassment at his being caught mentally undressing me was chased away by the slight smirk he gave before dropping his gaze.

His story wasn’t ringing true but the natural intuition I always relied on failed me. All I knew for sure was that a man, concerned about a cheating wife, didn’t come to a tarot card reader and look at her in the way he had just looked at me.

I settled in my seat, determined to get the reading over with as quickly as possible. Lifting the damp hair from my neck once again, I felt the fabric of my dress strain across my breasts and knew without needing to check that he would have noticed. Appallingly, my nipples hardened at the thought and I abruptly dropped my arms, cursing my own stupidity. Eyes averted, I spent a few moments shuffling the deck while telling him to concentrate on what he wanted to know. Offering him the cards, I told him to split them as he asked the question out loud. Nothing happened.

Having no choice but to look at him again, my breath caught at the change in his expression. The cold, dark eyes that had first greeted me now seemed larger and much warmer. The hard line of his mouth had relaxed and he looked slightly flushed. His delay in answering had been intentional. He’d wanted me to look at him.

I could feel myself blushing under his stare, feeling totally out of my depth. I didn’t know what he wanted or why he affected me this way. And he knew he affected me. His posture had relaxed and the hands that had been rigid on the table now smoothed down over his thighs as he kept his eyes on me all the while.

I felt a trickle of sweat start to roll down the side of my neck. Needing to wipe it away, I didn’t move, afraid again of making him look at my body but more afraid of how I would react when, not if, he did. I felt it slip slowly downwards onto my collarbone, pooling there for a second before it continued, as I knew it would, down my chest and under the neckline of my dress.

His voice made me jump. ‘It’s sure hot in here. Do you mind if I take off my over-shirt?’

His gaze riveted to the spot where the trail of sweat had disappeared inside my clothing, making it clear he had been following its path. I shook my head at his question, trying without success to refocus my attention on the cards.

My eyes were drawn back to him as the grubby v-neck t-shirt stretched taut across his chest. He shrugged off the shirt to reveal sweaty, heavily muscled arms that rippled as he moved, causing my breath to catch in my throat. His musky scent reached my nostrils and wasn’t entirely unpleasant, but it was entirely male. An ache began between my legs and I willed myself to ignore it. Sure, he was one hell of a man but that didn’t explain my reaction to him. Maybe the sexual drought of the past year caused me to squirm in my seat at the nearness of a good-looking guy? Whatever it was, I wished it would stop.

‘Should I cut them now?’ I only realized that I had been staring at him dumbly when his voice broke through my trance. I nodded, grateful for the distraction of the cards as I held them out to him. Placing a large hand under mine to steady it, he cut the deck. My skin burned where he touched me but I refused to analyze it, concentrating instead on the small amount of cards he had chosen. Men were quite anal about such things and often struggled to cut them exactly in half, like it mattered.

I found my voice. ‘You didn’t ask the question.’

Starlight Saturday

Silly Saturday

This week is time for silliness, but with a paranormal twist!

This first silly video comes from Jonathon Coulton and Dragon*ConTV

We can't leave out jokes, so here are some good, and some not so good jokes. Some of them would get you a "groaner" foul if you used them at Comedy Sportz!

From www.trueghosttales.com
How do vampires get around on Halloween?
By blood vessels!

What kind of ship does Dracula own?
A blood vessel! [Hey, I warned you, lol!:)]

All is not lost, I found another site with better, albeit longer, vampire jokes. The following are from www.best-funny-jokes.com
Why was Dracula always willing to help young vampires?
Because he liked to see new blood in the business.

Patient: Doctor, doctor, I think I've been bitten by a vampire.
Doctor: Drink this glass of water.
Patient: Will it make me better?
Doctor: No, but I'll be able to see if your neck leaks.

Two men were having a drink together.
One said, "I'd rather live with a vampire than with my wife."
"Why's that?" asked the other.
"Because she's always trying to bite my head off," he replied.

What do you call a vampire junkie?
Count Drugula.

And one more for good measure:
Which vampire tried to eat James Bond?
Ghouldfinger.

To top off this Silly Saturday edition, one of my favorite comic cartoons of all time:

Note: This is a scanned version of a photocopy of an original strip cut out from a purchased Milwaukee newspaper (Journal or Sentinel, can't remember which one, as they used to be two separate publications) circa 1987 to 1991.

Twilight Thursday

Please welcome Stacey Espino into the moonlight. Join Stacey at her website where you can learn more about Stacey and her books! Now, to the good stuff…

GRACEN: Do you have a movie that you must watch every Halloween? What's your favorite scary movie? Do you have a favorite scary character or character type?

STACEY: I’m a big chicken! Seriously. I can’t watch scary movies.

GRACEN: Do you dress up for Halloween? If so, what will you be dressed up as this year? What was your all-time most favorite costume that you ever wore? Why?

STACEY: Nope. I don’t dress up, but I’ve always wanted to dress up in one of those sexy costumes for women-only. Maybe I still will…

GRACEN: You should go for it, Stacey! Are you superstitious? Do you find yourself knocking on wood or throwing salt over your shoulder? If not one of these two, what is your superstition?

STACEY: I try not to be superstitious. I like to believe I control my own destiny.

GRACEN: Do you believe in ghosts? If so, have you ever had a ghostly encounter and tell us about it?

STACEY: I don’t think I believe in ghosts, but I believe in angels. I could swear I saw an angel when I was fourteen, but I’ll never know for sure ;)

GRACEN: Tell us 3 funny or strange things that happened to you, or someone you know, on past Halloweens?

STACEY: I’m too old. My memories only go back so far ;)

GRACEN: LOL Same here on the memories. If you could be any paranormal creature, what would it be and why?

STACEY: A shapeshifter would be cool. To enjoy two worlds, two selves, would make life more interesting.

GRACEN: Swashbuckling pirates like Johnny Depp are sexy, but e-pirates are not. How do you handle e-pirates in your writing world? Do you have any advice or wish to share any experience with other writers? Anything you wish to say to e-pirates in general?

STACEY: Of course, I hate the pirates, like every other hard-working author. My books are usually pirated on their release day. I’ve learned to ignore it because no matter how much effort you put in to stopping them, it continues. I hope there will be a way to track and stop them in the future. If someone likes to read, they should pay for the privilege.

GRACEN: I agree with you, Stacey! My personal wish is that one of them has something stolen that they've poured everything into. Eps...Sorry for my Karma violence! Now, let’s get to your writing, Stacey…Why the paranormal genre? What was the draw for you?

STACEY: I LOVE reading paranormal romance and urban fantasy, so writing in the genre was a natural move for me. There are no rules that can’t be overwritten, and love can last forever.

GRACEN: If you could describe your paranormal writing with a word or phrase, what would it be? Please be creative and look beyond words like vampire, werewolf, etc., and delve into the core of your writing to tell us what word or phrase you want readers to take with them when they've finished reading your story.

STACEY: Unique demon world.

GRACEN: Do you prefer playing tricks on people or bestowing treats? Does that show through in your writing? If so, how?

STACEY: Okay. I like to trick. I love keeping readers on the edge of their seats as I pull them into my world.

GRACEN: Who decides what creatures you write about, you or your muse? What kind of influence do you have over your story, or is the muse always the one stirring the cauldron?

STACEY: For my Immortal Love series, I wanted to create a unique breed of demons. I didn’t want the usual vamps for shifters, but something different. My newest series is about wolf shifters.

GRACEN: What was the creature/paranormal character that you had the most fun creating and why? Who—to you—was the sexiest character you wrote and why?

STACEY: I love my Fear Demons! They’re all sexy and so different. How can I pick? Maybe I’ll pick Javen from Fearless Love (Immortal Love, #2) Gotta love a damaged alpha male.

GRACEN: Damaged alpha males are always the sexiest! If you had the opportunity to meet just one of your characters in real life, who would it be and why? Which of your characters would you never want to meet under any circumstance and why?

STACEY: I’d love to meet any of my demons, cowboys or wolves! They’re all super yummy. I wouldn’t want to meet Ken, Grace’s ex-husband from SAVING GRACE. He was a jerk!

GRACEN: Thanks so much for joining us today, Stacey! All the best of success!

Blurb for Fearless Desires (Immortal Love, #1):

Delius never asked for his fate, but in a world that placed all its faith in prophecy, he would be a fool to challenge it. He felt like a parasite, forced to live off the fear of humans.

Wistful Wednesday

Today, I am very excited to welcome Joel M. Andre as my guest on the blog. Read on to discover how you can win a copy of his book, The Black Chronicles: Cry of the Fallen!

The Importance of the Supporting Characters

by Joel M. Andre

When it comes to a story, everyone will mention how vital the main character is. They are the soul and essence of the story. Blah, blah, blah….and so on. I’m here to disagree with that point. Why would I do this? Well, it sounds like a fun challenge that I can’t pass up. So here we go.

Main Characters Would Lack Substance

Think about this. There might be a character you love, but if they have no one to interact with. The story would instantly become bland. It would be full of self interaction that will never show you any character depth at all. Supporting characters encourage the dialogue that happens and help to form the main character better.

The World Would Be Narrow

How many people want to read 300 pages about one person? I sure don’t and that is what the supporting characters allow to happen. You can have another view on a situation and begin to explore the minds and thoughts of others. Best of all, you can go other places with these people, that the main character would prevent.

No Genre Would Exist

In the Horror/Murder Mystery/Thriller genres, these people make up the body count. If you didn’t have the supporting characters, you would quickly have no story to tell. In fact, part of the fun is guessing which of these characters is going to see the end of the book and which ones are going into literary heaven.

Sometimes They Make the Story

There are times you enjoy a main character, but the supporting characters really give life to the story. They make it fun and you can’t wait to see what they do next. This theme is often found in Television Shows and Movies and is usually the groundwork for a sequel or spinoff.

So in short, this is my points as to why the supporting character is vital to the story. As you can see, there are still some valid points to be made as well. That’s your job. I’ll be stopping by the day of my tour and seeing what points you can make. Best post wins a copy of The Black Chronicles: Cry of the Fallen!

Joel M. Andre was born January 13, 1981. At a young age he was fascinated with the written word. It was at fourteen that Poe blew his mind, and Andre began to dabble with darker poetry.

Between the years of 1999 and 2007 Joel was featured in various poetry anthologies and publications. In 2008 he released his first collection, Pray the Rain Never Ends.

Knowing there was something deeper and darker inside of his soul, Joel decided to take a stab at commercialism. Releasing the dark tongue in cheek, A Death at the North Pole, created a dark world among the death of Kris Kringle. Ultimately providing a tale of redemption.

October of 2008 saw Joel release his second book, Kill 4 Me. A tale in which a woman is haunted by a vengeful spirit through text messages and instant messaging.

Taking some time off and doing a lot of soul searching, Joel took things in a new direction and dabbled in the Fantasy Genre with, The Pentacle of Light. The tale dealing with five major races battling for control of Earth, and the acceptance of their God.

Finally, after missing his detective Lauren Bruni, he released the book The Return in October 2009, this time moving the action from the North Pole and placing it in the small Arizona community he was raised in.
Andre’s latest book is The Black Chronicles: Cry of the Fallen about a dead man who seeks revenge on the woman that tormented him in peaceful Northern Arizona.

Currently, he resides in Chandler, AZ.

Tantalizing Tuesday

Please welcome Kelly Abell into the moonlight. Join Kelly at her website where you can learn more about Kelly and some insightful writing tips as well! Now, to the good stuff…

GRACEN: Do you have a movie that you must watch every Halloween? What's your favorite scary movie? Do you have a favorite scary character or character type?

KELLY: If I had to pick my favorite scary movie I think it would have to be Pet Semetary. The book scared me to death and the movie lived up to its name. My family and I watch horror movies on Halloween and there are many that we choose from. The scariest movie I’ve ever seen is The Grudge. Ooooh, that one makes me shiver.

GRACEN: The book Pet Semetary is awesome! I've never seen the movie though. Do you dress up for Halloween? If so, what will you be dressed up as this year? What was your all-time most favorite costume that you ever wore? Why?

KELLY: Now that my children are grown I do not dress up for Halloween. I think it would be fun though. Maybe I will consider it. I think the best costume I ever wore was Cat Woman! I had the long black nails, the mask, the tail, the works! Gave the term Cougar a whole new meaning!

GRACEN: Are you superstitious? Do you find yourself knocking on wood or throwing salt over your shoulder? If not one of these two, what is your superstition?

KELLY: This is funny. I do both of those. My biggest one is the knock on wood. I find myself doing it without even thinking. I also throw salt over my shoulder. I feel silly doing it, but I just feel compelled. I’m sure there are more superstitions that I have I just can’t think of them all at the moment.

GRACEN: I knock on wood too. The irony of that...I don't consider myself superstitious! =D Do you believe in ghosts? If so, have you ever had a ghostly encounter and tell us about it?

KELLY: Oh absolutely I do. Our family has a history of visitations and the one I’m the closest to was the day my Grandmother died. She was in a nursing home in Virginia and I had moved to Florida. I took her Grandfather Clock with me and she really loved that clock. She named it Horace. We knew she was close to dying and one day my husband was at home and the Grandfather Clock just stopped. Shortly after that we got the word that she had passed away. That clock has not worked since. I still feel her presence very often. I will find things picked up and moved to different places. She was obsessive compulsive and couldn’t stand to have things messy, so every now and then she puts things away for me.

GRACEN: Oooo…that gave me chills! If you could be any paranormal creature, what would it be and why?

KELLY: Oh this is easy. I would be a shape shifter that turns into a cougar! I think cougars are so sleek and sexy and powerful all at the same time. They have quirky personalities and can project many expressions on their feline faces.

GRACEN: Swashbuckling pirates like Johnny Depp are sexy, but e-pirates are not. How do you handle e-pirates in your writing world? Do you have any advice or wish to share any experience with other writers? Anything you wish to say to e-pirates in general?

KELLY: I think pirating another person’s work is a crime and should be punishable by law. Writers and other artists work very hard to put together a novel, a movie or a song. We deserve to be paid for what we do. Help stop piracy.

GRACEN: Now, let’s get to your writing, Kelly…Why the paranormal genre? What was the draw for you?

KELLY: I have always enjoyed good ghost stories and all things paranormal. Paranormal characters allow me to be different and stretch my imagination to create very entertaining stories for my readers. With my newest novel Blood Harvest Moon I have a character who is a shape shifter but he’s not the typical wolf shape shifter. I think you will like what he becomes and his personality as he gets there.

GRACEN: If you could describe your paranormal writing with a word or phrase, what would it be? Please be creative and look beyond words like vampire, werewolf, etc., and delve into the core of your writing to tell us what word or phrase you want readers to take with them when they've finished reading your story.

KELLY: Tantalizing.

GRACEN: Do you prefer playing tricks on people or bestowing treats? Does that show through in your writing? If so, how?

KELLY: Oh I’m a bit of a trickster. I like to use cliff hangers at the end of all my chapters and sometimes at the end of a book in the series. I plant little quirks in my characters personalities and like to see if my readers can pick up on them.

GRACEN: Who decides what creatures you write about, you or your muse? What kind of influence do you have over your story, or is the muse always the one stirring the cauldron?

KELLY: I like to think of it as a partnership. Many times I am running the show and I think I know where I’m going but then my muse will remind me that I don’t know everything and take my characters in a totally different direction. I love it when that happens.

GRACEN: What was the creature/paranormal character that you had the most fun creating and why? Who—to you—was the sexiest character you wrote and why?

KELLY: Derek in Blood Harvest Moon was a blast to create. I took a mild mannered college student and turned him into a sexy shape shifting hero. I think you will fall in love with him too.

GRACEN: If you had the opportunity to meet just one of your characters in real life, who would it be and why? Which of your characters would you never want to meet under any circumstance and why?

KELLY: I’ll answer the last part of that first. I would never want to meet Ronlen, the evil warlock in my story. He’s powerful, shifty, and downright evil. I would like to meet Shaelyn in real life. She’s a beautiful Irish witch with control over a great deal of magic, yet she remains compassionate. How she outsmarts a curse is admirable.

GRACEN: Thanks so much for joining us, Kelly! Blood Harvest Moon sounds tantalizing and I can't wait to read it! All the best of success! ~huggles~

Here is the blurb:

The Art of Procrastination

Happy Monday readers!

Okay, yes, I'm late, but that's only because I was up late last night (or until early this morning) watching scary movies - it is October after all! Sunday afternoon watched Scream 1,2,3 in preparation for Scream 4's release in April of 2011.

However, the horror movie junkie that I am, couldn't get enough and I went from that to Halloween. I watched I and II. Curious about my viewing comments on these movies? Well, be sure to check out our Horror House, designed with the teen in mind, but also for the person who appreciates good scary flicks, no matter when it was made.

By now, you might be wondering why I have titled this "The Art of Procrastination". Well, even though I might have blogged about this topic in the past, I haven't had any real epiphanies or made any great strides...until now.

Okay, my husband might think that I'm wearing this with pride, but I view procrastination as an addiction rather than just a bad habit. Bad habits can be changed if you really want to, but true procrastination, that takes repetitive bad choices - there always has to be something better to do than what you're putting off.

Those of you who procrastinate know what I'm talking about. You know that procrastination isn't a habit because try as hard as you might, it's something you'll always do, and it can be started from the smallest of ideas, such as -
"Oh, but I need to spend time with family, so that can wait."
or, here's one of my favorites, "This event only happens once a year, so this can wait."

Honestly, cleaning is not one of my more favorite tasks and the biggest reason is my allergy to dust. See, this is a huge catch-22 for me. I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't. If I kept the house clean, I'd reduce the allergens in the home, however, cleaning in itself causes me to have respiratory problems. Can't afford a house cleaner and my husband sure isn't the type to clean regularly, so it falls to me, and there's always something more important than getting respiratory distress from dust...:).

Now, I admit I procrastinate, but this time, I've elevated it to an art form.

How so?

Well...here's the story...of a lovely lady, who was bringing up three girls of her own....sorry, there it goes again. I'm procrastinating.....here's the scoop:
I saw that the Thornbirds was on TV, haven't seen it in awhile and really wanted to watch it. Well, I couldn't justify all the time spent just watching, so I looked around at the house and saw a big job I've been meaning to tackle for years now - sorting through old junk mail.

It all started back in college. I just never had time for it. Between studying, spending time with my husband, and finding time for myself so that my brain wouldn't explode, the only thing I really truly had time to deal with - or wanted to - was bills. The rest, well, I kept saying, "I'll get to it later."

Yeah, I know, it's junk mail and doesn't take that long to go through, right? Should have been simple, but it wasn't, not for me. No, that's not a cop-out, it's the truth. At the time it all started, I was studying to be an electrical engineer. Yes, I may have had the smarts for it, but it wasn't easy, and there were classes that required a lot of my time, and my brain - as well as my sanity - needed study breaks, but it never saw going through mail as a "break", but another chore. So, into a shoebox it went. Eventually, I had shoeboxes full of junkmail and boxes full of these boxes. Eventually, they ended up all over the house. It's a freakin' nightmare.

Before I knew it, I had a problem, and I let it keep growing, until about a month ago. I had cleaned off the kitchen table, again, as well as the area surrounding the space I keep my laptop. I managed to set up a place where I can put all of my torn up junk mail.

Which brings me to another reason why I let things get so out of hand - fear of identity theft. That's another story. No, it hasn't happened to me. I just have my opinions on it, but I'll save them for another post.

Anyway, I managed to keep up with current mail for about a month, and I realized that if I can keep up with it regularly, I can manage the problem. I hoped that this would eventually help me work up the nerve to deal with the larger junkmail problem.

However, it wasn't to work quite like that. As some of you might know, I fell into a wallow of depression for a time. It was during this I really started to consider my life and where I was headed. For months, I have been trying to "exist" during the waking hours of the day, getting myself a new schedule so that I could enter the workforce and be a "functioning member of society." Yeah, right, who was I kidding? I'm a night owl, I need to embrace that. Okay, did that - honestly, I have. If I need to be up in the morning now, I just stay awake and make up for the sleep later. Sounds strange, but it's easy for me to do.

But, that didn't explain some of the other issues I was having in my life. I looked all over the condo and saw all these "unfinished" projects all over the place, not to mention my stack of stories. I realized that, if I ever wanted to be successful as a writer, or anything for that matter, I would need to learn how to "close" or "finish" something.

I realized that the true source of my writer's block wasn't lack of inspiration, but lack of space - anywhere! My brain has been overwhelmed with trying to figure out what I was going to do with some of the junk around the house, where I was going to start, etc.

It took me awhile, but it wasn't just about where to start, it was really more about actually "finishing" a task. Well, that's where the Thornbirds comes in. I wanted to watch it, but I needed to "finish" the task of sorting through my mail, so I sorted my mail while I watched the Thornbirds. That was the deal I made with myself - I couldn't watch any of it unless I sorted mail. I've been working for a week, and I'm not sure I'm half done yet because I honestly don't know how much more is lying around the house.

I've got stuff to be filed or tossed from at least as far back as 2005. Yeah, not proud of that, but, since I consider procrastination an addiction, admitting it is only half the battle. Now, I have to fight that evil notion of procrastination, which isn't easy to do, especially when living with a husband who practices it too.

There's another big reason - when your spouse says they'll do something and it takes them forever to do it, you find much more satisfying to put off doing something - as in cleaning. It's like a little war, only no one wins.

Any of this sound familiar? Well, what's your story?

Lancelot's Lady
by Cherish D'Angelo
Book Review
by Margay

A Bahamas holiday from dying billionaire JT Lance, a man with a dark secret, leads palliative nurse Rhianna McLeod to Jonathan, a man with his own troubled past, and Rhianna finds herself drawn to the handsome recluse, while unbeknownst to her, someone with a horrific plan is hunting her down.

When palliative care nurse Rhianna McLeod is given a gift of a dream holiday to the Bahamas from her dying patient, billionaire JT Lance, she has no idea that her 'holiday' will include being stranded on a private island with Jonathan, an irritating but irresistibly handsome recluse. Or that she'll fall head over heels for the man.

Jonathan isn't happy to discover a drop-dead gorgeous redhead has invaded his island. But his anger soon turns to attraction. After one failed marriage, he has guarded his heart, but Rhianna's sudden appearance makes him yearn to throw caution to the wind. To live fully in the present, Rhianna must resolve her own murky past, unravel the secret that haunts JT, foil the plans of a sleazy, blackmailing private investigator and help Jonathan find his muse. Only then can Rhianna find the love she's been searching for, and finally become...Lancelot's Lady.

Note: Book received from the author for review.

My review:

Anybody who reads this blog knows that my favorite genres to read (and write!) are of the more romantic variety, whether it's historical, contemporary or paranormal (and sometimes YA!). That being said, I don't usually foray into romantic suspense - unless something about it catches my eye. Such was the case when I was approached by the author of Lancelot's Lady with a request to review her book. Immediately, I was drawn in by the title of the book - and visions of the knights of the round table (yeah, I had a King Arthur thing in my youth - okay, it was really Lancelot I liked!). And although it wasn't filled with actual knights in shining armor, there was an interesting nod to the legend of Arthur that I won't spoil here. If you want to know what it is, you will have to read it for yourself!

So it was with great anticipation that I started to read Lancelot's Lady - and kept reading. This story was so well paced, I read the bulk of it in one night. Words just flowed off the page, characters worked their magic - with the help of a great tropical setting - and I was entranced. I found myself rooting for Rhianna and Jonathan to overcome their differences to be together, screaming at the bad guy who wanted to mess things up for them, and wondering what the heck was really going on with Rhianna's billionaire boss.

This book will keep you guessing until the very end and the payoff is very satisfying. So if you like romantic suspense, exotic locales, and characters that practically burn up the pages with their chemistry, then do yourself a favor and read Lancelot's Lady. I'm glad I did.

Sexy Villains!

Sexy - excitingly appealing; glamorous: a sexy new car. (from dictionary.com)

In paranormal fun, I thought I'd ask about people we think about, but may not always consider - villains!

When Gracen sent her pick to me, I wasn't surprised that it turned out to be a vampire. Her choice:

Kiefer Sutherland
Kiefer Sutherland 1
from The Lost Boys

Margay's was equally not surprising to me. I'm not sure why, but it seemed fitting for her, even though the character is a vampire. Her choice:

Frank Langella
Frank Langella
from Dracula (1979)

Then you have me, whose choice isn't so cut and dried. If I went with a vamp, I couldn't choose between Stuart Townsend as Lestat in Queen of the Damned or Martin Rudolph as Dracula in Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV series, but also as sinisterly sexy and charming as Vlad the Impaler in Dark Prince: The True Story of Dracula.

However, if I go with the earliest villain I was fascinated with, I would have to choose:

Pinhead
Pinhead
that charismatic cenobite leader of the Hellraiser series

I don't know, it must be that code he lives by, "hands do not call us." Oh, and the fact that he lets Kirsty Cotton go after she first summons him because she honestly didn't know what it was and thought it a mere puzzle box. He could have taken her then, but he didn't.

What about you? What's your favorite sexy, scary villain?

Wistful Wednesday

In Honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month

First of all, I want to dedicate this post to every person who's ever been touched by breast cancer in any form or manner. For the survivors, I congratulate you on your strength and persistence and can honestly say that I am glad you're still here. For the families of the survivors, I congratulate you on being there for your family members afflicted with this disease and thank you for supporting them in their struggles. And for those who did not survive, I say a silent prayer for you and hope that your loss is not in vain, but is one step in the journey that will bring an end to this horrible disease.

I have always been very aware of the fact that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month - you can't watch Ellen and not be! And I have always said a silent prayer for those who've been afflicted with it and counted my blessings that I didn't personally know anyone who had it. Well, I can't make that claim anymore. Last week, I found out that my older sister has breast cancer and is being operated on this week for it. Fortunately for her, they caught it in the first stage, so her recovery should be a lot less daunting than for someone whose cancer was found in later stages. For this, I am eternally grateful. But I still worry about her; my sister has a rather fragile psyche and I'm afraid that the emotional toll will be harder on her than the physical one.

Which brings up an interesting point. When we discover that someone we love - or that we, ourselves - have cancer, we often focus our attention on the physical toll it's going to take on them/us. We worry about the damage the cancer will cause to their/our bodies; we worry about the toll the therapies will take on their/our bodies. But do we spend enough time concentrating on the emotional toll it takes? Do we think about the depression, despair, sadness it evokes, not just on the sufferer, but on the family, as well?

Learning that someone you love has cancer is devastating. I know this firsthand because, in the past two months, I discovered that two of my family members have it: My aunt, who is on dialysis for diabetic-related kidney disease (and so the options for her are extremely limited), has cancer in her brain, lungs and kidneys; and now my sister, who has breast cancer. And while we are really optimistic for my sister's recovery, we are not so much for my aunt. These are not my first encounters with cancer. When I was younger, I lost two uncles (my father's only sibling and one of my mother's brothers), a grandfather, and numerous aunts and cousins to various forms of cancer. The memory of those losses haunt me. I remember how devastated I wants to learn of each passing and how I cried with each loss. I think we owe it to ourselves to release those emotions because if we don't, they will cause us more emotional distress in the long run. And we need to help our loved ones get through the emotional tolls on their persons, as well as the physical ones. We can't forget  how heartbreaking this news is to them; we need to support them as they vent their feelings and help them to build up the courage to endure the disease and the therapy for it.

So to that end, here's something you can do: Just hug your loved ones and let them know you are there for them, you support them, and they are not alone. Don't take them - or life - for granted. Take a moment to appreciate everything you have in life and everyone you share it with. And be good to yourself; take care of you so you can take care of others. You'll be glad that you did.

For everyone who reads this blog, I'm sending you a big virtual hug - now pass it on to someone you love!

Doing the Happy Dance

Why have been doing the happy dance this past weekend?

Well, I'm doing the happy dance because Steve and I made it onto Andrew Bogut's Squad 6 this year!

Was there any doubt?

Yes, more than a little.

Why?

Well, because compared to some of the other "contestants" our audition felt lack-luster. We had some words prepared, things we wanted to talk about, but nothing like some of the skits that other groups prepared.

But, lack-luster though our audition was, our cheering intensity wasn't. It was pretty good, and I went out and invested in a new red wig, to keep last year's persona going. Whether it was the wig, my story, the intensity of my cheering, or the fact I was on Squad 6 last year that helped me get on the Squad this year, I may never know. All I know is, I'm happy I'm on the Squad now and our first pre-season game is Tuesday night (that's tomorrow night, or today depending upon when you read this, lol!). Go Bucks!

I'm glad I made it because I found it to be a wealth of inspiration for my writing.

Saving the Earth Saturday

Okay, I haven't felt very spiritual or silly the past couple of weeks, but I'm getting back in the groove. Thought I'd start back up with some green tips that will save you money!

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

Sure, it's easy to say, but can be harder to do. Or is it?

I recycle, so what else is there to do?

Well, there's plenty of ways to help you not only save money, but Reduce, Reuse and Recycle everything you use, or almost everything.

How so?

Well, here are some tips you might be aware of, and maybe some tips you haven't thought of.

1. How much money do you waste on bottled water each week/month? Well, invest in a water purifier if you're really worried. Because my sister and her husband live in an area with well water, they have a reverse osmosis water filtration system. Or you can buy those filtration systems that you hook up to your faucet. Either way, you'll find yourself saving money because you'll always have safe, drinkable water in your home (as long as you replace the filters when necessary) and you can take it with you anywhere you go.

2. Besides bottled water, did you know that Gatorade sells its mix in powdered form? You may not be able to find all flavors, but you can control the strength of it, so it's not nearly as strongly flavored, but just flavored enough to make you forget you're drinking water. You can also do what I do, save the Gatorade bottles - they're strong and durable - sterilize/wash and reuse them. That way, if you're more concerned with outward appearances (afraid to let those around you know you recycle), the plastic bottles can help "mask" the fact that you're making your own and reduce the amount of plastic entering our landfills.

3. Buy your dish soap in bulk. If the bottle's too big to use regularly, then save one of your dish soap bottles and refill it. Not only does it save money because you're not buying it nearly as often, but it but, if you're buying Dawn, you can help save the earth and the animals at the same time since Dawn sponsors oil-spill efforts that save our wild, furry and feathery friends.

4. If you're going to buy pre-sliced foods, at least buy the ones with a reusable container and be sure to reuse it.

5. Buy your food (cottage cheese, peanut butter, etc.) in larger containers and use smaller ones to take them with you.

I have more than enough containers already!

If you're anything like me, you save every container you can, but the biggest problem you have is what to do with them and, by this time, you're frustrated because you haven't found any hints as to what to really do with them.

Well, here are some ideas:

1. Large peanut butter or other jars can be reused to store other food items - as long as the oily peanut butter has been completely washed out of the jar. I myself am currently using one of the large peanut butter jars to keep my Chinese noodles (those crunchy ones) - this will save on plastic bags because you won't have to keep replacing the bag, even if you do reuse it for as long as you can.

2. Large juice bottles can be reused to store juice made from concentrate. Making your juice from concentrate will save you money because you're using your own water. And, if you sterilize/wash and reuse those smaller juice containers you'll be able to continue to take your juice with you. Plus, did you know that those heavier juice bottles are great for ice! Fill them with water, freeze them solid and you'll have ice that lasts and won't have to buy it, so you save money there too and it will save on the clean up because there won't be loose ice to get everything soaked! The great thing is that it can easily be re-frozen too (as long as it fits in the freezer).

3. Those pill bottles from the pharmacy that no one really knows what to do with because they, by law, can't reuse them - what to do with them? I wasn't sure what I'd do with them but now I think I might just use them for planting - the lids might help the seedlings grow faster. Hand wash only though, because they'll melt if you put them in the dishwasher.

4. My husband likes to eat cottage cheese for lunch and a salad for lunch. At first, we started with all these different containers, but then they started to break or weren't fitting in his lunch cooler. Well, instead of buying "new" stuff, I just got creative and, since he buys his cottage cheese in bulk, and at the time we bought our butter in those 8oz tubs, the solution was already in our cupboards. Once my husband realized how much money he saved by reusing an 8oz container for his cottage cheese and reusing the big cottage cheese container to hold his salads in, he got over the vanity point.

5. Plastic containers (like cool whip) can be reused to eat popcorn or to make costume accessories such as hats or purses. You just need to be creative with your ideas.

6. If you're like me and you want to grow your own plants from seeds rather than "buy" seedlings, plastic containers can work great once the seedlings are big enough and need more room before they are transplanted outside.

How will it look to other people?

Yes, there's always a vanity point when it comes to saving the earth. You're always asking, "how will it look to other people?"

Well, if you're asking that question, it's one of vanity and nothing else. Who cares what your food is in? It's just your lunch. Besides, others might see you and think, "that's a good idea!"

If everyone reuses what they can, each person will reduce the carbon footprint and help to keep more plastics from being made.

Okay, what good will just one person doing this do? Well, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle is kind of like a rolling stone - when one person starts, others will follow.

Yes, I know that there are a lot of plastics being made on a regular basis, but the more people that begin to buy less of those plastics off the shelves (those not already containing food), the sooner the manufacturers will get the idea that we want less of it around.

Besides, the more you reuse some of those plastics and see how long they last, it makes you realize just how much the plastic industry is really hurting our world. Sure, plastic is considered a great invention, and it is, but we don't need quite as much that's in existence right now.

I have plenty of plastic containers that I reuse and I wash what I can in the dishwasher so I don't get overwhelmed with the amount of plastics that need to get washed. It's really eye-opening when you stop and consider how long the plastics our society considers "use once" really lasts. If drug companies would re-use (sterilize/wash) pill containers, they'd save a lot of money.

It's time to bring the plastic revolution to a close and start working on ways to stop global warming - yes, it's real and is really happening, despite what some people want you to believe.

What about you, what ideas do you use when reusing plastics?

PHANTASM FRIDAY

October 1st!!!!!! Today starts a month long celebration of Halloween for me and I'm putting up all my Halloween houses! Can't wait to get neck deep in decorating my house with them. I enjoy putting them up more than I do my Christmas houses. I also love that now I can wear all my skull jewelry and voodoo doll jewelry without anyone thinking I'm into demonic worship or something equally evil.

So, to kick off the month of October and my 31 days of Halloween celebration, I’m going to talk about Haunted Houses

*insert evil laugh*

Bwhahahaha….

We’ve all grown up with stories of haunted houses, haunted dormitories or haunted areas—something haunted anyway. The city I grew up in had a local legend about a bridge. If one went to it at night, the ghosts of those that had driven off the bridge would haunt the place. Personally, I went necking down there with my boyfriend and I didn’t see anything. Nope, nothing! So much for a legend, huh? Or maybe I was too consumed with kissing the boyfriend to notice any ghosts had they been haunting the place. =)

The term “haunted houses” brings to mind my personal experiences. I grew up in a house that, while not necessarily haunted, it had a spirit of some sort living with us in perfect harmony. I often felt protected and loved by that spirit. I've mentioned before that I believe my great-grandfather haunts my father’s house, as I’ve seen his spirit more than once. The comparison between my great-grandfather and the spirit I grew up with is startling. When I saw my great-grandfather the feeling was so intense, so vile and aggressive, and he wanted us gone. Or that was the way I interpreted it.

I have a girlfriend, Nicole, who bought a home with her husband. It was a beautiful piece of property, twenty-five acres, with an older fixer-up home. The home was so old it had a well built on the corner of the front porch. It was cool, a neat little piece of history. I can’t even imagine having to draw my water out of it just to meet the basic necessary needs. But after having kids I see the danger in it too. The place had oodles of potential and best of all it was away from the big city. It was so quiet and peaceful.

My first visit there, I came home telling my husband the place had a ghost. Everywhere I went, I felt like I was being watched. I never felt any hostility, but more curiosity. Daytime or nighttime, it didn’t matter, some unseen presence watched. From inside the home to the shed in the backyard, something always watched. The only time I could truly get away from the presence was when we would ride the four-wheelers across the back part of the property and woods.

I didn’t realize until we visited for a Halloween party a couple of months later that Nicole had purchased the home from an estate after the previous owner, an elderly woman, passed away in it. It was like the light-bulb went off in my head—a smack my forehead V8 moment!—where I thought ‘that is why I’m feeling those hidden eyes’.

Another weekend I was there goofing off with Nicole and her mother, Jill, when Jill started talking about her conversations with the spirit of the woman who once owned the house! I got chills!! I teared up! To have my feelings and thoughts confirmed was exciting. The only thing that would have made this haunted house perfect would have been for it to have a cemetery sitting on the property! LOL

I went home that night and told my husband about Jill knowing there was a ghost there too and couldn’t resist saying, “I told you so!” His reply was that I wasn’t the only crazy person in the world. ;-)

I’d love to hear your comments...do you believe in hauntings or spirits (ghosts)? Have you had an experience you'd like to share with us? If so, leave me a comment! We'd love to hear your tale.

The Hits Just Keep on Coming

Hello, Everyone, I am still reeling from the news I got yesterday that my older sister has breast cancer (it's stage one, so they caught it early, thank god), so I want to take this post and send out some positive vibes into the universe for her and for everyone out there dealing with this issue. And to do that, I am going to share with you some of my favorite things - things that make me happy no matter how many times life kicks me in the pants. I hope they make you smile, too.

So these are just a few of my favorite things. I hope you enjoyed them!
