Slippery Willie's Stupid, Ugly Shoes

by Larry Peterson

Today, we're featuring this children's book because of the special qualities of the story. We've featured similar stories before: Frankie the Rock n' Roll Dog, a story about a special dog that rolls along on his wheeled chair, and we've featured Second Chance: How Adoption Saved a Boy with Autism and His Shelter Dog that tells a story about about the connection a dog from a rescue shelter and a boy with autism developed and how that connection brought the boy from a cloud of autism to the world around him - didn't cure him, but it helped make the connection a bit easier...

Like these two books, Slippery Willie's Stupid, Ugly Shoes tells the tale of a boy with "the slipperiest feet in the whole world" and the special shoes that were made for him. This book offers children a glance at what it would be like to be different, while at the same time, letting kids who do have problems know that they are not alone, and that they are special.

Larry Peterson was born and raised in the Bronx, New York. As a freelancer, he has written many newspaper columns for local publications. Slippery Willie's Stupid, Ugly Shoes is his first children’s book. Peterson has lived in Pinellas Park, Florida for the past 28 years.

Blurb: Willie Wiggles hates his slippery feet. He just slips, slides and spins all over the place. But what he hates even more are the special shoes that have been made for him that will help him to walk just like all the other kids. Willie thinks that they are the "stupidest, ugliest shoes in the whole world."

Discover how sometimes we worry about things about ourselves when actually there is nothing to worry about in the first place.

  3. Thanks for stopping by Larry! We love letting parents know what kinds of books are available for kids, since kids are readers in training!

Great story! Though I must admit, saying, "Slippery Willie" on a site like this can have a world of meanings other than what you intend, lol! :)
