In the Moonlight with Morrie Richfield, Author of Mr. Breeze

What kind of book is Mr. Breeze?
Last night, I had some friends over for dinner when the discussion at the table turned to my recently published book, Mr. Breeze. One of them grabbed my Kindle Fire to read the latest reviews for Mr. Breeze. As my dinner guests read each review, most of which were very complementary, they seemed to grasp the messages I was trying to convey.  I was then asked if I intended for my book to be an inspirational fantasy and I began to laugh. Nope, I said! The very last thing I thought Mr. Breeze would be called was an inspirational fantasy.
The problem is that no one has ever read, seen, or heard of anything like it before and it does not fit into any known literary category. And since everything must (do not ask me why that is, I cannot tell you) have a category, well, they put Mr. Breeze in the one called inspirational fantasy.
“Well, what is it really?” someone asked me. I smiled and thought to myself, “Should I really tell them? What the hell, why not.”
Mr. Breeze is a self-help book, a storybook, it is a reality series on paper, it is what we see when we look in the mirror. It shows us at our worst but gives us a glimpse of how great we could become. One person was upset at my liberal use of profanity ‘in an inspirational book’. Well, I’m sorry, but it was not written as an inspirational, how-to, book. The message was mainly to make the reader see what a mess we humans have made of this world through our ignorance, greed and lack of humanity.
The inspirational part, if you want to call it that, is to make us want to find a way to improve ourselves, our relationships, our neighborhood, our state, our country and our world so that we can all live in harmony and as equals. You see, things can change pretty drastically in an instant or they can change over a century. The important thing to realize is that GREAT change can be made one heart and one mind at a time.

Return to the Moonlight

Hey there readers and Moonlightees,

In the past several months, I've been trying to return to the blogosphere, but life has made that quite difficult. When I say, "life," I mean, "migraines."

I've also been working on my latest story. Perhaps story is the wrong word. The way things have been going, epic saga seems to be the better way to describe it. Not only have I come up with a basic summary/idea for several books, I've realized that this current set wants to be connected to a previous series I'd been working on.

Besides that, new characters show up all the time, and some have changed or morphed into something else. It's been difficult to keep track, lol!

The hardest part for me?

Being motivated to write while in front of my computer. It seems lately, that I'm more apt to want to write while out someplace, using pen and paper. I guess it could be the open atmosphere, but honestly, I'm just not really sure why I'm not 100% motivated while at home. I determined there's just too much on my, "To-Do-List," while there isn't anything on my list when I leave the house but have a good time.

I've also been trying to come up with new designs for the different aspects of this site. It doesn't help that photobucket changed the way things work, and I haven't been able to use some of the old features with the new layout yet - slideshow among others. I've been wanting to get out and take some photos to use for some of the non-romance sites, but even though it's mid April, the weather sure hasn't been cooperating. It snowed over the weekend. Sunday it was white out for a bit, and the other days, it's just been cold and wet.

It doesn't help that I decided to change from one supplement to another to help deal with my migraines. Let me tell you, not all B-100 complexes are the same. It's not the B-100 part of it that can be the problem for us migraine sufferers, but the other ingredients that can inflict pain. (For more on that, check out my personal blog: Carrie's World. I'll be updating my migraine/cause and solutions in the next couple of days.)

Enough of my rambling for the day.

What are you reading these days? Any authors you'd like to have interviewed here in the moonlight? Just tell me in the comments and I'll see what I can do!

True by Erin McCarthy: A Review

A captivating New Adult novel from New York Times bestselling author Erin McCarthy.

When Rory Macintosh’s roommates find out that their studious and shy friend has never been with a guy, they decide that, as an act of kindness they’ll help her lose her virginity by hiring confident, tattooed bad boy Tyler Mann to do the job…unbeknownst to Rory.

Tyler knows he’s not good enough for Rory. She’s smart, doctor smart, while he’s barely scraping by at his EMT program, hoping to pull his younger brothers out of the hell their druggy mother has left them in. But he can’t resist taking up her roommates on an opportunity to get to know her better. There’s something about her honesty that keeps him coming back when he knows he shouldn’t…

Torn between common sense and desire, the two find themselves caught up in a passionate relationship. But when Tyler’s broken family threatens to destroy his future, and hers, Rory will need to decide whether to cut her ties to his risky world or follow her heart, no matter what the cost…

(From NetGalley)

My Thoughts:
This is a pretty standard story about a girl from the right side of the tracks meeting and falling in love with a guy from the wrong side of the tracks. There aren't a lot of surprises in this story; it hits all of the expected marks with the precision of someone checking off a to-do list. Good girl meets Bad Boy, check. They try to deny their attraction, check. They get thrown together, check. Examples of his horrible home life versus her near perfect home life, check. There are so many reasons why this relationship shouldn't work out and yet it does.

That being said, it is a well-written story that just sucks you in and keeps you up all hours of the night, reading when you should be sleeping. After just a few chapters, you will find yourself invested in what happens to these characters - and their friends and family. I know I was. I really wanted things to work out for Rory and Tyler because, appearances aside, they are both very decent and caring people who deserve to have that happy-ever-after. I really liked how they cared not only for one another, but for the people in their lives. They are both very loyal and generous people, often to the point of self-sacrifice and it is at once endearing and heart-breaking to endure at some points.

Ultimately, this is a wonderful story of two people who just want to be together despite the hand life dealt them - and what they do to achieve that end. I enjoyed it very much and can't wait to read more from this author - I am so looking forward to the next book!
