What kind of book is Mr. Breeze?
Last night, I had some friends over for dinner when the discussion at the table turned to my recently published book, Mr. Breeze. One of them grabbed my Kindle Fire to read the latest reviews for Mr. Breeze. As my dinner guests read each review, most of which were very complementary, they seemed to grasp the messages I was trying to convey. I was then asked if I intended for my book to be an inspirational fantasy and I began to laugh. Nope, I said! The very last thing I thought Mr. Breeze would be called was an inspirational fantasy.
The problem is that no one has ever read, seen, or heard of anything like it before and it does not fit into any known literary category. And since everything must (do not ask me why that is, I cannot tell you) have a category, well, they put Mr. Breeze in the one called inspirational fantasy.
“Well, what is it really?” someone asked me. I smiled and thought to myself, “Should I really tell them? What the hell, why not.”
Mr. Breeze is a self-help book, a storybook, it is a reality series on paper, it is what we see when we look in the mirror. It shows us at our worst but gives us a glimpse of how great we could become. One person was upset at my liberal use of profanity ‘in an inspirational book’. Well, I’m sorry, but it was not written as an inspirational, how-to, book. The message was mainly to make the reader see what a mess we humans have made of this world through our ignorance, greed and lack of humanity.
The inspirational part, if you want to call it that, is to make us want to find a way to improve ourselves, our relationships, our neighborhood, our state, our country and our world so that we can all live in harmony and as equals. You see, things can change pretty drastically in an instant or they can change over a century. The important thing to realize is that GREAT change can be made one heart and one mind at a time.
